Indian College Fund Receives $30 Million
The American Indian College Fund received a $30 million gift to shore up the crumbling facilities at 30 tribal colleges from the Lilly Endowment, the largest private gift ever made to an Indian organization in the United States.
The $30 million gift is the first to be contributed to a five-year capital campaign fund drive that hopes to raise at least $120 million for construction and renovation of facilities at tribal colleges.
Located in largely rural settings, tribal colleges in 12 states serve 26,000 Indian students, about 85 percent of them from families living at or below the poverty level. The colleges will share in the construction endowment.
